The End was originally designed as a barren void dotted with floating obsidian platforms, home to the mighty Ender Dragon. The obsidian pillars, added later, acted as silent sentinels and gave the dragon energy. These pillars, called endstones, became the only blocks you could find other than obsidian. The lone creature that defines the realm, Ender's dragon, has had an interesting history. Depicted as the ruler of this dark plane, Ender's dragon provided a terrifying boss fight, the hardest in the game, that concludes the player's adventure.
The End has a unique place in the heart of the gaming community. It was recognized not only for its eerie atmosphere, but also for its potential to surprise with limited resources.
