So Whitestone is a testament to resilience, rebirth and redemption. It stands not only as a picturesque town, but also as a reminder of the battles, famous victories and history that carved it into the gem it is today.
History
The city was once a prosperous and vibrant place ruled by the de Rollo family. For generations, the de Rollos were just and kind rulers admired by their subjects. It was during their reign that Whitestone experienced tremendous cultural growth and prosperity due to the abundant wealth derived from its marble deposits.
But prosperity often leads to greed, and so was Whitestone. The prosperity of the De Rollo family attracted the attention of the wealthy Briarwoods, who wanted wealth. The disastrous events are now called "The Fall of Rolla". The Briarwoods ruled Whitestone with an iron fist for a power-hungry movement.
Among the Briarwoods, Whitestone lived through some of his darkest days, when oppression and fear became an unwanted daily norm. The town's economy has been manipulated to suit the interests of the Briarwoods, and the exquisite white marble, once a symbol of prosperity, has been exploited.
The Kingdom of Briarwood was finally overthrown when Percy de Rolo, backed by Vox Machina, staged a successful rebellion against them. After Briarwoods, Whitestone faced the daunting task of rebuilding itself. Today, the city still bears the scars of its past as it struggles to regain its lost glory under the reigning heir de Rollo.
This rich historical background of Whitestone shapes the city's current identity, depicting a history of pain and perseverance. The Marble City is a testament to the constant struggle against the inevitable cycle of prosperity, ruin and rebuilding.
Background
Under the de Rollo family, the city's prosperity seemed boundless until the Briarwoods took over. The land was ravaged and the population dwindled, leaving them destitute under the tyrannical rule of the Briarwoods. The city has become a shadow of itself.
But the fall of Whitestone was not the end. Percy de Rolles, scion of an exiled family, teams up with Vox Machina on a daring mission to reclaim the city. Their victory over the Briarwoods ignited hope among the citizens of Whitestone. This revolutionary act was considered the Whitestone Rebellion, a symbol of resistance that reverberated throughout Alexandria. Whitestone, though scarred by his turbulent past, is now free from the clutches of the Briarwoods. It is slowly regaining its former glory and now serves as a beacon of light in the north, a symbol of resilience and a testament to the spirit of its people. The city continues to thrive under Percy and his wife Vex'ahlia, leading to a brighter and more prosperous future.
But danger lurks in the shadowy corners of the city and beyond, never really going away. But the people of Whitestone, with their newfound strength and determined leadership, are ready to face all threats.
