Overview
Players can explore Alderney's many unique locations, including a number of upscale nightclubs and bustling bars, perfect for escaping the gritty reality of GTA's underworld. At the same time, the streets are teeming with diverse and resilient cultures, as Italian, Irish and other immigrant communities enrich Alderney's character. Reflecting its working-class roots, the rougher and more industrialized parts of Alderney are also home to notorious criminal gangs and host some of the show's most spectacular escapes. This gritty underbelly is home to some of GTA's most die-hard characters, making Alderney a must-see for those who crave intense action.
At the same time, Alderney also boasts breathtaking scenery with Acter Industrial Park's panoramic view of the harbor allowing players to catch their breath in between frenetic action. In many ways, Alderney has it all - rich storytelling, fascinating places and diverse cultures. Whether you're in the mood for high-octane action or want to immerse yourself in a unique cultural setting, Alderney offers an experience like no other in the GTA universe.
History
Said to date back to European colonization, Alderney takes its name from Phillip de Alderney, who purchased it in the early 1600s. Like Liberty City, Alderney also had natives who were later deported or killed.
The rise of the Industrial Age turned Alderney into an industrial capital, attracting immigrants from all over the world. As a result, the Acter Industrial Park was established, which is still the pride of the state.
Alderney may not have the glitz and glamor of Algonquin, but its sands give it a unique character. It is a place of suburban houses, towering skyscrapers and bustling commerce. But in a wave of progress, it's also a place that couldn't quite distance itself from its crime-ridden history.
From Alderney State Penitentiary, a penitentiary that reflects the rotten side of society, to the horrific Sprunk factory that has seen better days; every corner of Alderney has a story. As it's home to the infamous Pegorin crime family and several street gangs, it's no surprise that it's also home to GTA's main character. Alderney Casino, also known as the Ghost Casino, Alderney has always been a place that attracts adventure seekers.
Despite its somewhat treacherous history, Alderney prides itself on being a gem of raw character amidst the sea of equality that Liberty City often represents. A land of opportunity for some, a place where dreams die for others, this is Aldernis for you in the world of GTA.
Background
Alderney's rich cultural tapestry is worth mentioning. The state is home to various ethnic communities that contribute to its cultural diversity. As well as the urban jungle, Alderney also boasts quaint suburbs such as Berchem and Alderney City, which provide a stark contrast to the otherwise industrial environment. Alderney City Mall bridges the gap between the gritty underbelly and upscale neighborhoods.
Amid the hustle and bustle, Alderney also sleeps with its eyes open and is heavily policed due to its high crime rate. Alderney State Penitentiary is a prominent figure in reaffirming the state of the legal order.
First and foremost, Alderney has carved out its place at the center of the GTA universe. The protagonist role of The Lost and Damned and the setting of many GTA IV missions made it memorable to players, often overshadowing the criminal elements. Despite its earnestness, Alderney has an undeniable charm, a character that draws and seduces in equal measure. Whether it's the skyline dotted with colorful neon signs or the bustling streets full of energy, Alderney is a place in the GTA universe that cannot be missed.
