History

Hollow Knight tells the story of the kingdom of Hallownest, an ancient and prosperous dungeon. The key to this world's culture and defense are ships, also known as Abyssal Knights. Knight, the main character, belongs to this group. The origin of Hindus is shrouded in mystical lore.
Powerful and enigmatic, the Pale King, Lord of the Nest of Bones, uses the pure darkness of the Abyss to create ships in collaboration with his queen, the White Lady. They were born from the void, encased in shells and given a mask that defined the soul. The purpose of their creation was to create a perfect being that could resist the plague that could destroy Hallownest. The plague known as "Infection" comes from an entity known as "Radiance". He infected the insects' minds, essentially turning them into aggressive shells.
Of the many ships built, the Knight was one of the few that survived, though it was deemed unfit and discarded, thrown into the abyss. The knight's survivability and resilience is impressive and overwhelming. Against all odds, the knight makes the arduous journey from the abyss to the fading world above. Their journey, strength and courage play an important role in the fight against the developing plague and are a testament to their inherent qualities of strength, determination and hope.
But all of Vaz's achievements come with a tragic realization; they exist for one purpose only: to contain the infection and protect the remnants of the once great kingdom of Hallownest. Although ships are vast in their power and purpose, they are not exempt from the harsh realities of their existence: their fate is ultimately bleak and irreversible. But despite the darkness that surrounds their origins and existence, the knights, especially our knight, represent an unrelenting fight against decay, an eternal hope in the dark, and the last guardians of the echoes of history.
