History

Ravnica, often referred to as the Guild City, is a large area where the entire world consists of one large city. Its history is incredibly rich, spanning thousands of years and marked by monumental events that shaped the plain and its inhabitants.
Ravnica was once a pristine world with ever-changing landscapes, but the city's constant expansion and development has turned it into a sprawling cityscape. The reorganization created a functionally useful chaos that led to the formation of ten guilds, each with power over certain aspects of city life. The Azorean Senate enforces law and order, the Golgari swarm controls decay and rebirth, and the Gruul clans embrace a wild primal fury that the city can't quite quell. But the most important moment in Ravnica's history is the signing of the Guild Pact, a magical treaty that tipped the balance between the powers of the ten guilds. This spell, influenced by the magic of the law, brought stability and peace to Ravnica for ten thousand years. However, with the failure of the guild's magical pact enforcement, guild conflicts intensified, and the plane was once again on the brink of disaster.

The disintegration of the original Guild Pact and the events of the Ten Thousand Year Celebration that caused it to disband brought a new era of tension and strife to the city.
