History
Father Frank is often absent from home due to alcoholism and drug addiction, so the responsibility of raising the younger brothers falls on the older sister Fiona. Fiona is a de facto matriarch, too busy to support her family and out of access to social services to lead a stable life of her own. Despite the hardships, she is fiercely protective and would do anything for her family. Fiona is joined by Lip, a genius who struggles with addiction, Ian, who suffers from bipolar disorder, Debbie, who is constantly trying to prove her worth, Carl, a troublemaker who ends up joining the army, and Liam, who represents multi-ethnicity. The Gallagher bloodline and Sammi, Frank's long lost daughter.
Over the years, the Gallagher family has faced everything: poverty, incarceration, mental health issues, parental abandonment, strained relationships and endless crises. But in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles, they have shown remarkable resilience and an uncanny ability to find humor in the darkest of circumstances. Whether it's a school project, a lawsuit, or a medical emergency, these Southside fighters always manage to survive, usually with their sense of humor intact.
