The "Gem Corruption" event is an important milestone in Steven Universe continuity. This monumental event marks a change in the storyline, turning many of the famous gems into monstrous versions of themselves. This event is a direct result of the Diamond Order launching a powerful sonic attack they launched in hopes of destroying the Rebel Crystal Gems on Earth. Instead of wiping them out, the attack left them with much deeper wounds, affecting their physical and mental forms. In a cataclysmic moment, the vibrant variety of gems were tragically altered, their unique personalities and forms reduced to primordial and monstrous versions. But even when damaged, the spirit essence of each gem is never lost, offering hope for restoration and redemption under the right circumstances. This event intertwines with the narrative tapestry of Steven Universe and includes themes of identity, transformation, and the resilience of the mind.

History

Steven Universe is an innovative and inspiring animated series about Steven, a fun-loving and stubborn boy who is also a half-human, half-alien hybrid. In a universe filled with magical gems, she inherits her mother's gem, rose quartz, and with it gains extraordinary powers. These magical gem-dwelling creatures have unique properties and powers that reflect the colors of real gems.

Steven lives in the fictional town of Beach City with the remaining Crystal Gems: Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. These characters, while appearing feminine, are non-binary and use feminine pronouns. Throughout the series, Steven and the Crystal Gems, who were the leaders of the rebellion against the tyranny of the Gems on Homeworld, have many adventures. They protect the earth from their own and try to bring peace to the cosmos.

Steven universe universe explores themes of love, friendship, identity and self-discovery. It breaks stereotypes and pushes boundaries, expressing diversity and inclusion like no other animated series.
