History

In the unique universe that is Undertale, ruins hold an important place in its rich history. One of the first regions available, the ruins are an introduction to the game's mechanics and unique emotional story. Despite its dilapidated appearance and the occasional hint of melancholy, this dilapidated building has a deep historical significance that tells the story of the past of the monsters.
Located in the far north of the dungeon, the ruins were founded as a haven for monsters after a war against humans. Built like a city, this structure includes a series of rooms, halls and puzzles designed to protect against invaders. The area is dominated by sage green, with consistent leaf patterns visible in various spaces, revealing a strangely harmonious relationship of decay and life within the walls.
Guardian of the Ruins, Toriel took this place after she left New House after the tragic death of her children. Since then, he has guarded the structure and its secrets, watched over the fallen and provided comfort and protection from the dangers of the underworld.
Over time, the ruins became a symbol of the monsters' resilience and adaptability as they learned to make a living within the crumbling walls. This is a testament to their persistence; crumbling corridors echo with stories of hardship and hope that reflect their eternal spirit. The ruins are more than just a historical artifact; they form a tangible connection to the monster's past, the unchanging reality they have lived through. Every corner of the ruins whispers stories of survival and tells the ongoing saga of monster battles, thus becoming a mirror reflecting their history, which is vividly embedded in the Undertale narrative universe.

Background

The ruins in the Undertale universe are the first area and introduction to the world beneath Mount Abbott. Steeped in the air of antiquity, they contain a rich tapestry of history and culture where monstrous and human existences intertwine.
The ruins feature distinctive shades of purple and lavender, a testament to their age and the mystical elements that bring them to life. Labyrinthic corridors lead to several chambers, each containing an artifact or relic that tells the story of the monsters' past.
Here, after jumping out of the pit at the top of Mount Abbott, the main character Frisk lands first. The shadowy figures painted on the walls tell of ancient stories and countless battles between humans and monsters, who are silent observers of the region's past.
The ruins are home to Toriel, a kind and caring goat monster who guides Frisk through this mysterious, otherworldly world. As he walks through puzzle-filled corridors, the player learns the ropes of the game, the gravity of his decisions, and the value of grace.
Although seemingly abandoned, the ruins are alive with many monstrous inhabitants. These interactive quests bring together a warm community within the cold granite walls, from the wise Froggit giving advice to the rambunctious curmudgeon. Essentially, The Ruins is a haven for a war-enforced monster society that can retreat to the lowest corners of the Earth. Deep purple tones, ancient architecture and a labyrinthine structure are the starting point of Undertale's story. The ruins embody ghostly echoes of the past, silent witnesses to the history of resilience and monster life beneath Mount Abbott.
