The Coup of Thanedd is a major event in the Witcher universe, where a conference of wizards held on the island of Thanedd ended in a bloody clash. In the peaceful surroundings of the magical academies of Arethusa and Garstang, a battle fueled by political disagreements broke out. This event witnessed a conflict between the wizards of the north loyal to the kings and the wizards of the south aligned with the Nilfgaardian Empire. The tension ended with the capture of several wizards, while others managed to escape amid the chaos. He is a pivotal point in the series and influences the political landscape of the story. Not only did he break the trust of the wizarding community, but he also led to a looming war between the Northern Kingdoms and the Nilfgaardian Empire.
