Overview

Kaedwen, a mountainous terrain in the northernmost part of the continent, is a true adventurer's paradise in the Witcher universe. The country is crowned by the Blue Mountains and the Kestrel Mountains, which paint an incredibly breathtaking picture of natural scenic beauty.
In addition to the quiet charm of the mountains, Kaedwen surprises with the town of Ban Ard. Called the Magic Center, Ban Ard Academy is the heart of the city, and around it radiates a great aura of powerful traditions and mystical spells. Ban Ard is not only a place of magical history, but also the home of the famous poet Dandelion. Kaedwen is not all about serene mountains and magical spells. It is also a land of fierce warriors. It is home to King Henselt's army, called the Banner of Dun. It is a place where the clash of swords and battle cries echo in the cold mountain air.
But Kaedwen's troubled history has also left her scarred by the infamous witch hunts. A dark cloud of fear and suspicion hung over the otherwise lovely land. Kaedven is characterized by its resilience and the strength of its population. Despite their tumultuous past, they are strong, fighting battles, casting powerful spells and singing tales of bravery, making Kaedven a land of fascinating strife and majestic beauty.

History

Kaedwen, a northern kingdom in the vast world of The Witcher, has witnessed centuries of strife, bitter strife, unity, and progressive development. Kaedwen's story is an extraordinary account of events marked by violence and ambition, as well as courageous leadership and an indomitable spirit.
Founded in the 11th century after the First Landings, Kaedwen's strategic position proved itself in its early years as a political center and military stronghold. The kingdom continued to grow and prosper under the rule of several dynamic and strategic kings. King Viduka was one of the prominent rulers who crossed the borders of Kaedven and left an indelible mark on its history. Kaedwen was active in most of the regional wars, including the First Northern War against Nilfgaard and the wars with the neighboring kingdom of Aedirn. Kaedwen's battle-torn story showcases his ruthless spirit in the face of constant war and political turmoil.
Over time, Kaedwen became synonymous with strength and resilience. This fortified kingdom became a witch training center in Kaer Morhen, home to the School of the Wolf, which produced such legendary witches as Geralt of Rivia.
Although ravaged by wars and often caught in political tensions, Kaedven bravely navigates the stormy waves of time with determination. History is a strong example for future generations to learn from: evidence of endurance, courage and the indomitable human spirit. Today, even in the face of disaster, Kaedwen's legacy continues to inspire its people, reminding them of past victories and failures, shaping their resilient present and ambitious future.

Background

Located in the northern regions of the continent, Kaedwen is one of the four most powerful kingdoms in The Witcher world. Mountains and forests surround its borders, keeping it isolated from warring neighbors. It is a country which, due to its northern geographical position, is characterized by constant cold spells. The main source of the economy in this cold kingdom is the export of the highest quality forests, metals and gems, which are abundant due to the dense forest cover and mountain ranges.
Inhabited mostly by humans, Kaedwen also hosts dwarves in its multicultural society, the city of Vergen, which stands out as a symbol of coexistence and unity in the face of regional and racial conflict. As a monarchy, it fought many wars under King Henselt, as expansion and supremacy were one of its main motives, reinforcing its infamous reputation. Often the scene of major historical wars, Kaedwen's history is marked by conquests and victories that instill deep respect for warriors and veterans in cultural norms.
Kaedwen's landscape is defined by the Braa, a major river that contributes greatly to the kingdom's strategic defenses. Kaedwen is also home to many important sites, including the infamous Kaer Morhen, a witch fortress that once stood tall and proud, now reduced to skeletal remains. Now it represents only the remnants of the glorious era of witch training. Despite its rich historical background, Kaedwen's future is in jeopardy, always caught between political instability, internal friction and external forces. It is indeed a place of harsh survival, but also a land of ethereal beauty and awe-inspiring possibilities.
