Overview
It follows the journey of Daniel Cross, a man plagued by hallucinations from his past life during the Russian Revolution. There is a fascinating duality to Daniel's story, as he acts as a modern-day assassin while reliving the memories of his ancestor, Nikolai Orelov.
Nikolai's horrific experiences as a member of the Russian Brotherhood of Assassins during a tumultuous period in Russian history are closely related to Daniel's story. As Daniel grapples with these invasive echoes of the past, questions arise about fate, autonomy, and the weight of historical legacy.
The comic's stunningly detailed and dynamic artwork captures the tension and gritty reality of a killer's life, both past and present. The Chain successfully combines the rich and established history of the Assassin's Creed franchise with new approaches, creating a story that stands on its own and complements the larger narrative tapestry of Assassin's Creed.
With a compelling narrative and vivid visuals, Assassin's Creed: The Chain solidifies its position as a must-read for any fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise. It offers illuminating insights into the complex web of conflict, intrigue and ideology that defines the world of Assassin's Creed. Experiencing the interconnected stories of Daniel Kross and Nikolai Orelov is a journey that transcends time and space.
Plot
In this story, Orelov and his family try to leave Russia, but he is ordered to carry out one last mission: to steal an artifact from the Bolsheviks, caught in the middle of the chaos of Red October. However, Orelov meets the tsar's witch Anastasia and causes unexpected events. At the same time, readers also follow the life events of his descendant, Daniel Cross, as he struggles with his legacy as an assassin and the invading influence of the Templars in the 21st century.
Essentially, Assassin's Creed: The Chain offers an intense exploration of the eternal conflict between the Assassins and the Templars against the dramatic backdrop of revolutionary Russia, while illuminating the troubling legacy of the past in the present.

Set in late 19th and early 20th century Russia, The Chain explores Orelov's struggles in a rapidly changing political landscape. Readers see him torn between his duty to the Assassin Order and his responsibility to his family. In perhaps his most humane portrayal to date, we see Orelov as an unwilling participant in a world war and his attempts to break free to protect his loved ones. More importantly, The Chain expands on the mysteries surrounding the Ancestral Race and their powerful artifacts, taking the overarching plot to complex new heights. The conclusions of Orelov's story have great implications for the current narrative, greatly deepening our understanding of the eternal clash between the Assassins and the Templars.
A gritty and striking art style combined with a deeply emotional storyline make The Chain a staple of the Assassin's Creed graphic novel series. The release resonated with the fan base, further cementing the series' position in pop culture.
