Bandit

General Info

Bandit logo
Faction NameBandit
Hailing from the chaotic and merciless world of Pandora, the bandits are a wild and unpredictable dangerous faction. Comprised of outlaw thugs, scavengers, and assorted misfits, their territories are sprawling slums filled with stolen technology, crumbling fortresses, and prison camps. Their banner of loyalty is as diverse as the members themselves, marked by icons of skulls and various psychopathic masks representing fear and chaos. They attack armed, frenzied and manic, driven by only two goals: to survive in the harsh environment of Pandora and to steal what is not beaten. Their equipment, if you can call it that, is as reckless and unstable as it gets, often crudely constructed from whatever stolen scrap or machinery they can get their hands on. Get caught unprepared in bandit territory and you're in for a cheeky welcome.

Overview

A faction of bandits inhabit the chaotic wastelands of Pandora and are known for their brutal tactics and brutal brutality. They were originally settlers trying to make money on Pandora, but were abandoned by the big corporations that brought them there. Once on a hostile planet, their sanity was quickly undermined and they turned into brutal and ruthless criminals.
The bandit faction consists of several subgroups, each with unique characteristics that set them apart from the others. They use waste from the deserts to make weapons, creating crude but effective deadly objects that reflect their evil instincts. They are naturally difficult to control or negotiate with because they deeply believe that chaos and brutality are the only true forms of freedom. Their territories are characterized by crumbling fortifications and arenas for brutal gladiator fights. They live by the creed of "survival of the fittest" and uphold violence as the highest form of law in their community.
Despite their seemingly stupid brutality, they adhere to rudimentary social norms and hierarchies, often choosing the strongest among them as leaders. However, this leadership is always in flux and is challenged by any bandit who thinks they are stronger. Their unstable nature and unpredictable behavior make them formidable enemies to anyone who crosses their path in the harsh wastelands of Pandora.

History

In the iconic Borderlands universe, the Bandit faction has risen from the chaos following the departure of major corporations Dahl and Atlas. With the retirement following fierce competition for Pandora's resources, many workers and disgruntled residents were left behind. From the waste of their past lives, they began to form a new way of life, which led to the formation of the bandit faction.
Pandora proved to be a hostile environment with limited resources, demanding a ruthless way of survival for its captive population. For those who could not find refuge within the safe walls of the settlements, working together became the only means of survival. Thus began the creation of the bandit faction. The faction is made up mostly of ex-convicts, natives, and disillusioned ex-megacorp workers who have been left to fend for themselves.
The brutal environment and lack of social facilities hastened the transformation of these desperate survivors into ruthless marauders. Their violent and often erratic behavior was exacerbated by Hyperion Corporation experiments that exposed them to Eridium, genetic engineering, and cybernetic modification.
Over time, these thugs began to develop their own perverted culture. This has created many different bandit clans on Pandora, each with their own unique traits and modus operandi. These clans worship different things: some worship inanimate objects, others are attracted to grotesque changes in the body, and still others worship the ruthless president of the Hyperion Corporation, Handsome Jack.
In the ruthless world of Borderlands, a bandit faction offers a chilling reminder of the consequences of a megacorporation's schemes. Abandoned and tested by harsh realities, they are a disturbing reflection of resilience in the face of despair, showing that even in the midst of madness, a sense of belonging and identity, however twisted, can create order. .

Geography

The bandit faction of the frontier universe spans a diverse geography, from arid deserts to mountainous terrain and ruined industrial zones. Unlike other factions, bandits have no fixed territories, but are scattered across vast barren landscapes and live in makeshift settlements built mostly from salvaged scrap metal.
Abandoned wastelands like the Dust, known for their rust-colored sand dunes and the occasional broken-down vehicle, are the common base of operations for the Bandit Clan. Meanwhile, even places like the refrigerator, the harsh and frozen landscape, are off-limits to these brave outcasts. Given their ability to adapt, bandits show no clear preference for a particular geographic environment, indiscriminately using their environment to their advantage. Their habitats are often found in reverse, preferring the harsh conditions of Pandora's unpredictable environment. For example, bandit settlements are regularly seen around corrosive pools in caustic caves, despite the obvious toxicity and danger. This chaotic geographical selection reflects the resilience of the bandit faction and perhaps their innate propensity for disorder.
Thus, while the bandit faction has no defined geographic boundaries of control, they still span the unforgiving landscape of Pandora, leaving few areas untouched by their lawless influence. In fact, wherever you board Pandora, you'll likely be within walking distance of a bandit camp.

Legacy and Impact

The bandits' legacy in the Borderlands universe is chaos and disorder. This motley group of renegades cultivated an ethos of survival by any means necessary. Their influence on Pandora ushered in a new wave of lawlessness, with settlements and territories marked by a bandit aesthetic, a combination of refined technology and raw craftsmanship. They also indirectly contributed to the exploration and discovery of vaults, often serving as reluctant guides (and formidable obstacles) to Vault Hunters. Furthermore, their seemingly unconscious ethos has been subsumed or manipulated by various powerful enemies to further their own agendas. Despite their tough exterior and ruthless nature, the criminals also evoke Pandora's fortitude, reflecting the desperation, recklessness, and ruthless toughness of its inhabitants.
