This film takes us back to Harry's haunting summer filled with terrifying nightmares about his encounter with Voldemort. The sudden dementor attack, plagued by a lack of news from the wizarding world, is another shock. Due to the illegal fusion of the Patronus Charm in the muggle world, Harry is expelled from Hogwarts, but the Order of the Phoenix intervenes. Created by Dumbledore to counter Voldemort, the secret Order of the Phoenix is a beacon of resistance. The members accompany Harry to their headquarters in the gloomy and mysterious twelfth, Grimmauld Place.
Harry is put on trial at the Ministry, much to the dismay of the 15-year-old, but thanks to Dumbledore's shrewd intervention and testimony, his expulsion is reversed.
The film then moves to Hogwarts where the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dolores Umbridge, is introduced. Umbridge, a Ministry official, promotes strict rules, undermines Dumbledore's authority, and banishes Harry. In response, Harry, Hermione, and Ron form Dumbledore's Army, a secret group dedicated to teaching other students practical defense techniques. Harry faces many challenges, including betrayal and Voldemort's increasingly disturbing influence on his psyche.
Visions of his godfather Sirius lead Harry to the Department of Mysteries in danger, and then to an epic battle between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters.
