History

Dominaria, the nexus of the multiverse, has a rich history spanning thousands of years, and stories of war, peace, ascension, and disaster are told here. This plane was originally discovered by the Thran, a civilization that pioneered trickery and magic. Their invention of power plants led to growth, but also caused unrest. Yawgmoth, a healer turned tyrant, tricked Tran into wreaking havoc.

Yawgmoth's rule marked a terrible era of Phyrexian tyranny that culminated in the Kindred War. In this war, brothers Urza and Mishra fought on two sides of the power stone, destroying continents and flooding the island of Argoth. Urza later became a Planeswalker, setting the stage for a millennia-long battle against the Phyrexians.

The Phyrexian invasion was a devastating time when Dominaria was attacked on many fronts. Yawgmoth unleashed a poisonous Cloud of Death, turning the living into undead agents. The conflict ended when the aircraft carrier Urza and the silver golem Karn activated the null moon and destroyed Yawgmoth. After the invasion, the decimated nation of Dominaria caused a time crisis where rifts in space-time threatened to tear the plane apart. After the intervention of a group of planeswalkers, including Karn and Tefer, the rifts were repaired, but not without great expense. Teferi lost his spark as a planeswalker and most of Dominaria was trapped in a slow time bubble.
In recent times, Dominaria has been rebuilt on a plane that has merged with the Church of Serra and the Order of the Cabala to usher in a new era of growth, healing, and discovery. It remains a landmark event in the MTG universe, a testament to the trials overcome and the triumphs won.
