Band of the Hawk
General Info
Faction Name | Band of the Hawk |
---|
Overview
The uniqueness of the group lies not only in their fighting skills, but also in their sense of camaraderie and loyalty to each other and to their leader. Hawks hailed people of all backgrounds as long as they demonstrated their bravery. It was home to a motley crew of amazing fighters, such as the relentless swordsman Guts and the skilled warrior Casca.
The major turning point was the eclipse event that sacrificed most of the Hawks, leading to Griffith's painful transformation into a Femto. This event changed the course of the story and had major consequences for the surviving members, Guts and Casca. After the eclipse, the Band of Hawks was reincarnated under the leadership of the resurrected Griffith, along with a new breed of extraordinary warriors.
The Rise, Fall and Resurrection of the Hawk Flock is a gripping tale of ambition, friendship, betrayal and resilience that tests the limits of the human spirit and destiny, placing it at the heart of the BERSERK story.
History
During the Hundred Years' War, the Hawk Pack gained a reputation as the most agile group of mercenaries. This was highlighted when they managed to save the Midland kingdom from the powerful invasion of the Tudor Empire. It was the sheer tactical brilliance of Griffith, the fighting spirit of Guts and the archery prowess of Casca that brought untold victories to the Midland Kingdom. In return, the group was elevated to the status of the White Phoenix Knights, and Griffith was also knighted.
But their glory days ended tragically in an eclipse, an apocalyptic event orchestrated by Griffith himself. In his relentless pursuit of power and his dream, he sacrificed every member of the Hawk Band to the Divine Hand, grotesque creatures from a hellish dimension. Only Guts and Casca survived the horrific carnage and remained to remember their fallen comrades. The original group's collapse meant a second incarnation of the Hawk Group, which Griffith revived after the blackout. However, it is important to note that while the name remains the same, it bears little resemblance to its predecessor. This new group was a jumble of humans, apostles, and other supernatural beings who had strayed from their original notions of fellowship and dreams. What was once a symbol of aspiration and courage has now become a grotesque mockery. It is their story that tells of a tragic fall from grace. Their legacy reflects the tragic nature of the Berserk universe, combining brave deeds with the macabre.

Geography
The main stronghold of the Hawk Group, Windham Castle, is geographically well situated on a hill in the Midland Kingdom. It offers stunning views of the surrounding area, making it a great location for both exploration and defense. Equipped with strong fortifications, it serves as a main base and shelter during a war attack.
This landscape scheme, combined with the Hawks' tactical acumen, gives them a significant geographic advantage over their opponents, and indeed played a key role in earning them the nickname "The Grim Reaper of the Battlefield."
Legacy and Impact
The legacy of this group is wrapped up in the larger Berserk saga. They embodied change in an otherwise static power structure and gave hope to the common man. The group's influence is reflected in the growth of its former member, Guts, who transformed him from a happy mercenary to a determined warrior fighting against his destiny.
Their eventual disappearance, known as the Blackout, shifted the tone of Berserk's narrative in a darker, more supernatural direction and changed the series forever. Band of the Hawk's legacy extends beyond manga and influences many works in the fantasy genre. The band, though no longer in existence, remains a symbol of camaraderie and ambition, determined against insurmountable odds. Their story is a stark reminder of the cost of human resilience and ambition, echoing forever in the pages of Berserk.
