History

Known for its free-spirited people and vibrant culture, Rivain has a strong history full of examples of resilience and resilience. Rivain was originally inhabited by the Rivaini people, who thrived on fishing and maritime trade, living in harmony with the seafaring Qunari who ruled the city of Kont-aar.
The first significant event in Rivain's history occurred when the nation was conquered by the First Tevinter Empire. They introduced a system of governance and cultural customs that drastically changed the course of Rivain's history. However, the collective spirit of the Rivainai changed the situation once again, with rebellions at the height of the Age of Entry, successfully freeing themselves from the shackles of Tevinter. After throwing off the yoke of the Tevinter Empire, the Rivaini became embroiled in a conflict with the Qunari, a tumultuous period that spanned from the Age of Steel to the Age of Storm. Although the land was eventually lost and retaken by the Qunari, the influence of their long-standing ideological and theological underpinnings led to widespread recognition of the Qun among the Rivaini.
The last historical impression on Rivain was in the Dragon Age, when the High Church March was summoned to the nation. Despite immense pressure, Rivain displayed a ruthless spirit that maintained its cultural individualism against the Andastian Church. This opposition resonated with the population and created a deep resistance to outside religious influences. The history of Rivain is a complex tapestry woven with stories of triumph and perseverance. The people of Rivain have consistently shown courage to preserve their culture and freedom against many enemies. However, they continue to welcome influences that resonate with their core values, creating the rich cultural mix that defines modern Rivain.

Background

Located at the northernmost point of Theda, Rivain is a realm with a unique flavor of familiarity and exoticism, far removed from the usual hustle and bustle and strict hierarchy of Ferelden or Orlais. Instead, it is a land of freedom characterized by the free-thinking inhabitants of Rivaini who have cultivated a culture very different from most of mainland Theda.
Rivain is at the crossroads of trade routes and is a melting pot of different cultures, with strong influence from nearby Antiva and the more distant Tevinter Imperium. Despite this influence, the Rivaini managed to maintain their identity, known for their devotion to the Qun, a spiritual and philosophical guide that shaped their belief system, rather than the generally accepted teachings of the Church. Both men and women wear sea tattoos - this is a famous tradition of Rivaini. Unlike most Teds, where Magi Circles unite magic users, Rivaini witches or "seers" are accepted and respected. Living in symbiosis with the innocent ghosts of the Fade, they guide the population in decision-making and continue to promote social harmony.
Rivain's main towns of Dairsmuid, the capital, Kont-aar and Llomerryn all have their charms, from the bustling markets of Dairsmuid to the breathtaking shores of Kont-aar, while Llomerryn has the infamous reputation of being the home of Felicisima Armata.
But this idyllic picture is not without shadows. Incursions from Tevinter to the north, along with tensions between converted Qunari and non-believers, sometimes cause unrest that is at odds with the peace-loving nature of Rivain. Oh, Rivain, a land of dance, music and heated debate, remains an exciting paradox, at once unsettling yet appealing to those who value freedom above all else. With every wave that crashes against her shore, you can almost hear her whispering daring tales of pirates, seers, and philosophical debates about the Qunari.
Finally, Rivain is not just a physical place. Its essence is fun markets, festive sessions, diversity and harmony of people. It is an experience, a free spirit that cannot be tamed like the sea that surrounds it. This is Rivain, the jewel of Theda, with its own rhythm and magic of life.
